About Us
The Safety Nets Foundation is an officially registered Lebanese charitable and non-profit organization aiming at providing financial support to those who are in need among our people.
Introduction
History
The civil war in Lebanon between 1975 and 1990 and the civil unrest in 2008 had left behind casualties, wounded, orphans, disabled and widows.
The absence of a Druze benevolent institution that can provide the immediate and continuous financial support if an occurring incident results in casualties, wounded or disabled has led to the idea of founding a Druze Endowment Fund that can grow over time from the continuous contributions of donors and secure from its annual income a continuous financial support.
-
The Safety Nets Foundation is a Druze endowment fund unique in its kind. It was registered in Lebanon on 24th of May 2012 with the ministry of interior under number 911, as a charitable and non-profit organization aiming at providing financial support to the families of our martyrs in the present and in the future (May God Forbid) and in general to those who are in need among our people. Also it shall be registered in USA as a 501(c)(3) public foundation, so that it can receive tax deductible contributions, and in the meantime it is endorsed and approved by the American Druze Society (ADS) and donations can be made to the foundation through the ADS as tax deductible donations.
Concept
This foundation shall develop the concept of the social responsibility in a way to change it from mere donations that end when its circumstance ends, to a concept that is built on the continuous benefit from the benevolent deed as an investment in the development of the capabilities of those who are in need among our people.
Our Mission
The primary mission of the foundation is to improve the quality of life of those who are in need among our people and to enhance the culture of philanthropy. It shall financially support from the earnings of the endowment fund the following categories:
- › The families of our martyrs and the widowed women & orphans.
- › The elderly who have no income, and the disabled.
- › The sick who cannot afford the cost of hospitalization.
- › The university and highschool students who excel in their academic education and are in need of financial assistance.
In the long-term, the mission of this foundation shall also be to provide low rent apartments for our young men to encourage them to get married. These apartments shall be built on properties of AlAwkaf, if Alawkaf Committee approves, or on properties donated to this foundation.
From this fund five independent accounts branch to support five charities. However, it remains at all times that it is always the choice of the donor to determine the charity that shall benefit from the earnings on investment of his donations.
In case of emergency situations, which require additional support to any of the charities in this foundation, the board of directors shall support this charity with a part from the earnings of the other charities after approval of not less than ¾ of the board members.
Our Vision
We appreciate that the world is passing through difficult economic times, however;
- › We are certain that even when a small donation is made and added to other small donations, a vast difference can be made.
- › We are certain that the time has come to launch an institutional Druze group effort in order to elevate the status of our people.
- › The contribution to this fund is an actual monetary endowment invested in the development of the capabilities of those who are in need among our people.
- › Benevolence has been a blessing for those who give, small or large.
- › Although the purpose of this fund is to serve our people in Lebanon who need help, we hope that one day with our continuous collective contributions, it shall grow to become a Global Druze fund capable of supporting all of our people who are in need anywhere in the world.
May God help us all to achieve the goals of this great humanitarian organization.

Director Message
Dear Brothers & Sisters,
This foundation is the avenue to achieve your noble goals in alleviating the hardship of the needy and improving their living and education status.
The endowment funds from your continuous generous contributions shall grow over time and secure from its annual income a continuous financial support, which shall be an investment in the development of the capabilities of those who are in need among our people.
We realize that exceptional stewardship is essential for our success and this is achieved by:
- › Providing donors with the highest level of financial accountability.
- › Informing donors of the impact of their donations to recognize their essential role in our community.
I urge you not to hesitate in donating to this foundation no matter how small your donation may be. When a small donation is made and added to other small donations, a vast difference can be made, and we should not forget that the sea is composed of drops and that in every drop are all the qualities of the sea.
I hope that through this foundation you find your path of benevolence, for benevolence has always been a blessing for those who give, small or large.
We should always remember that by providing help we are creating hope.
May God Bless you,
Samih M. Daou
